No Anxiety! Mark 13:11
February 22, 2011
(Jesus said) “And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.” Mark 13:11
Dr. Charles McVety has a Christian television show in Canada … some of the time.
It seems McVety has had a run in with the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council. That’s the group which makes sure broadcasters don’t say bad or offensive things. Apparently, McVety’s comments about homosexuality fit into that category. As a result, his program was removed from the air and let back on after he was warned his shows would be screened before broadcast.
McVety’s last three shows haven’t been aired.
On one program he talked about an upcoming debate with an atheist author. McVety was told he couldn’t call her an “atheist pastor.” When McVety told his audience his free speech was under attack, that program was pulled because he wasn’t allowed to use the word “attack.”
McVety says he’s no longer sure what is allowed and what is not.
Either way, he’s upset he is not allowed to openly criticize sin, while many other shows get away with criticizing the Savior. He said, “You can turn the television station on and you will hear my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ cursed on a regular basis — and (they) don’t censor anything like that.”
In all honesty, I have never heard Dr. McVety, so I can’t comment on his show. On the other hand, I do know there are many places where, in the name of political correctness, a Christian can’t label sin as being sin. You can call sin many things … but you can’t condemn it as wrong.
It’s highly unlikely things will, in the foreseeable future, get any better.
This is why it’s time for Christians to take a stand. When I say, take a stand, I’m not encouraging anyone to be obnoxious or get in somebody’s face. I’m saying we should — no matter what the world may want — keep on doing that which God’s grateful people have always done.
Without fear or apology we need to keep bearing witness to the Savior who has done all which is necessary to save us from sin, the devil and death. The world won’t like it and they may tell us to hush, but our Savior expects us to take a stand for Him.
THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, all too often we see the world trying to silence the Savior and His witnesses. You have told us the preaching of the cross would be offensive to some and foolishness to others. May we recognize the cross and open tomb for what they are: Your way of saving souls from damnation, Your plan of salvation. To that end, keep me faithful. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
