Deception, Campfire Bible Study; 1John 2:18-29

Deception:     Mislead, trick, betray, lie to, swindle, con, misinform, cheat, hoodwink, defraud, dupe, delude, take in!
Reading:
1 John 2:18-29 (Note:  Not to say we cannot be taught by those anointed to be teachers.  ie:  Don’t have to be taught the fundamental truths that Jesus is the Son of God)
Who Deceives us? Verse 18:  A personality; The word anti means “instead of”…Antichrist (a Counterfeit Christ)   Matthew 5:37
Who are these people they are talking about? Verse 19:  Their heart had already departed from God or they would have stayed and by leaving their faith or lack of faith was revealed.  2John 7,8
Who is anointed? Verse 20:  A chrism (ceremonial anointing of one with holy oil); perhaps so termed in opposition to the name of antichrist; an inward teaching from the Holy Ghost
How did they get to the point of being deceived?  And how could we?
1 Timothy 4:1:  Intellectual Desertion
2 Corinthians 6:14-18:   Physical Desertion
Galatians 6:7,8; 2 Corinthians 5:17:  Moral Desertion
How can we avoid being deceived?
Romans 10:8;Ps 139:1-4—Stay  Connected to the Word
Colossians 3:16—Stay with the Body of Christ in your heart
1 John 3:1—Born Again, Abide in Jesus
Matthew 12:36,37—Be accountable to God
Ephesians 4:17-19; Hebrews 4:13-16—Daily  walk (live) with the Lord
2 Peter 2:1—Keep away from false teachings
Anointing, not to be confused with Gifting:
Linked symbolically to the coming of God’s Spirit. 2 Corinthians 1:21,22
Pouring oil on the chosen one symbolized God’s equipping him/her with authority and God calling that person to a specific responsibility.  Kings were anointed, as were priests, holy things and places where God had acted or communicated!
1 Sam 16:13; Luke 4:18,19; (Same as Isaiah 61:1);  Gifting:  Ephesians 4:7,8;11,12;
Acts 10:38; Acts 2:38
